How We Got Here
On February 26, 2026, the Middletown Township Board of Education voted 5–4 to advance a budget framework that assumes the closure of Leonardo Elementary School and Navesink Elementary School, tied to preparation of the 2026–2027 budget. The resolution was added via an agenda amendment after executive session, despite written assurance three days earlier that closures were not on the agenda. Families are asking for transparency, complete public cost and logistics data, and a publicly vetted transition plan before any final decisions are implemented.

Why It Matters
Saving our schools means standing up for our children, our families, and the strength of our community. Strong public schools help shape not only education, but connection, identity, and opportunity for generations to come. When a community fights for its schools, it is fighting for its future.
What's Next
Save Middletown Schools is tracking every step of the 2026–2027 budget process tied to the February 26 vote. We’re organizing and sharing the key information families still haven’t been shown—full financial modeling, transportation and transition costs, facilities impacts, and student services planning. We’re also coordinating respectful community action so residents can stay informed, ask clear public questions, and advocate for a transparent, publicly vetted plan before any closures move forward.
